MUMBAI: Indian media personality Nalini Singh’s Nepalese TV channel Nepal1 will re-launch in the country as the government decided to remove the ban on the channel. The channel was taken off air by the Nepalese government following the February coup.

Singh’s New Delhi-headquartered TV Live company was given official intimation Thursday by the information and communications ministry that its programmes could be viewed here again.

The two largest cable operators in Nepal would be beaming Nepal1, the TV channel owned by Singh’s TV Live company, stated media reports. The channel had lost a sizeable chunk of its revenues with prime sponsors like Unilever Nepal pulling out post the ban.

Nepal1’s reality show Nepal Star, an equivalent of Sony Television’s Indian Idol had been one of the most watched shows in Nepal television. The winner was to star in Bollywood film directed by Mahesh Bhatt.

The new government had allowed Indian news channels to be broadcast again after India had expressed concern over the curbs on the media post-the coup.
