Universal Pictures signs Indiagames to develop ‘Serenity’ game
MUMBAI: Indiagames has signed a worldwide licensing agreement (excluding Japan) with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to create mobile wireless content based on the Hollywood studio major’s upcoming film Serenity.
Indiagames will develop and publish a Serenity Space Shooter title, allowing game play as Captain Malcolm of the Serenity spaceship in a top-view flying game.
Written and directed by Joss Whedon, (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel), Serenity is a futuristic action-adventure film scheduled for release in the Unites States and Canada on 30 September.
Players are challenged to make it to the planet Miranda; to get to the bottom of the conspiracy locked inside River’s mind-the conspiracy that the Alliance wants to cover up. The game allows players to fight their way through Alliance vessels, ground attacks and Reavers, while enjoying action levels interspersed with dexterity oriented docking levels. Players must pick up rebels (who will pay credits to be transported from one space port to the next) and use their credits to upgrade the Serenity spaceship.
“We have wanted to do more business with Universal for a long time and we are really excited to see this through,” states Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal.
“We believe that Indiagames is the best partner to translate the fun, adventure and rich visual universe of Serenity from the big screen to the handset,” said Universal Studios Consumer Products Group V-P of Media Licensing and Strategy Jeremy Laws.
Earlier, Indiagames had also developed wireless content based on Joss Whedon’s famous television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
