MUMBAI: UK pubcaster the BBC’s children’s channel CBBC’s acting controller Richard Deverell has announced a raft of new commissions to add an energising new twist to the broad mix of children’s programmes on the channel.

Deverell said, “I think these new commissions demonstrate our ambition to deliver programmes of great originality and distinctiveness. We have just overhauled our in-house commissioning to make it more inclusive and collaborative. This comes hot on the heels of the restructuring of our independent commissioning system to ensure we are getting the best, most creative ideas through.”

Launching in April 2006, RU Game? is an ambitious new cross-platform daily magazine show for breakfast time which tackles children’s universal experience of growing up and empowers them to meet life head on.

Science is the subject under the spotlight in 101 Things To Do With Ice Cream. This new format, to launch first as a web proposition, will take the audience on a journey of discovery of science fact and science trivia through witty and lateral connections.

Meanwhile Beat The Boss will celebrate children’s entrepreneurial skills as they battle against the bosses to beat them at their own game. Magazine Programmes executive editor Reem Nouss will executive produce all three of these projects which are being made by CBBC in-house production.

Also commissioned is Newsround Investigates. It will be occasional half-hours taking an in-depth, investigative look at issues which profoundly affect children’s lives. The first of these will transmit next year and intermittently throughout the year and Roy Milani is to executive produce.
