DQE announces 3D film slate through 2014

MUMBAI: Hyderabad-based DQ Entertainment has firmed up a slate of three 3D movies at a global budget of $25-30 million each.


There will be one release each year starting 2012. The Jungle Book is set for release in 2012-13, followed by The New Adventures of Peter Pan for 2013-14 and The Phoenix and the Flying Carpet for 2014.


The slate will be led by the flagship property of DQE, The Jungle Book 3D TV Series-sold in 160 countries and greenlit for a second season after being broadcast on networks such as TF1-France, ABC-Australia, BBC-UK, Disney-SE Asia, ZDFTV-Germany, TVO-Canada, EBS-Korea and others. The stereoscopic pilots received appreciation at feature film forums and will be presented at the feature film markets at Cannes and AFM to appoint sales agents and distributors worldwide.
 
The Jungle Book based on the original writings of Rudyard Kipling has been adapted by great writers from UK and USA for 21st century kids. The film will be released in high quality stereoscopic 3D.


The New Adventures of Peter Pan, to be released in 2013, will see Peter Pan back in timeless Neverland and 21st century London. The feature will showcase the fight to save Neverland not only from the evil Captain Hook but from many more ‘unimaginable evils‘ that now inhabit magical Neverland.


The Phoenix and the Flying Carpet, originally written by Edith Nesbit, will come to life as a 3D Stereoscopic Feature film. The adventures of the five children will involve the millennial phoenix, a bird of awesome vanity, and a magic carpet. The phoenix and the children make a number of expeditions around the world from China to Arabia and India.


Said DQE Chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti, “At DQE , there is enormous excitement after completion of The Prodigies, 3D Feature Film, to move forward rapidly for the development of The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and Phoenix and the Flying Carpet – 3D Stereoscopic feature films.”

MIFF 2026 to return to Mumbai; film entries open till April 12

19th edition to host WAVES Doc Bazaar, spotlighting global documentary talent

MUMBAI: The 19th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival 2026 is set to take place from June 15 to 21 at the NFDC Complex, with film submissions currently open and the deadline fast approaching on April 12.

Organised by the National Film Development Corporation under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the biennial festival remains one of South Asia’s most prominent platforms for documentary, short fiction and animation films.

Filmmakers, producers and content creators from across the globe have been invited to submit entries via the Film Freeway platform for the Competition Section. Offline submissions will not be accepted, reinforcing a fully digital entry process.

MIFF 2026 continues to sweeten the deal with a robust awards pool of Rs 55 lakh. The coveted Golden Conch for Best Documentary carries a top prize of Rs 10 lakh, alongside multiple awards across categories, making it one of the most lucrative non-feature film festivals in the region.

A key highlight this year will be the second edition of the WAVES Doc Bazaar, scheduled from June 16 to 18 alongside the festival. Designed as a hub for collaboration, the Doc Bazaar will feature a co-production market, viewing rooms and a work-in-progress lab, bringing together global buyers, sellers and creators under one roof.

Since its inception in 1990, MIFF has built a reputation as a serious showcase for non-feature cinema, drawing participation from filmmakers worldwide. The previous edition saw over 350 films from more than 30 countries, underlining its growing international footprint.

With submissions closing soon and preparations underway, MIFF 2026 is shaping up to be a vibrant meeting point for storytelling, collaboration and cinematic craft, offering filmmakers both a stage and a springboard.
