IFFLA unravels films for schedule

MUMBAI: The 9th annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) has announced 13 feature films, six documentaries and 13 short films that will make up for its 2011 schedule.


The list includes the Los Angeles premiere of I Am Kalam and the world premiere of Walt Disney Pictures‘ Zokkomon . The documentary, Big In Bollywood, will also be premiered at the IFFLA.


Marking their US premieres will be Aparma Sen‘s Iti Mrinalini (An Unfinished Letter) and Laadli Laila (Virgin Goat) directed by IFFLA alumnus Murali Nair.


Los Angeles audiences will also have their first viewing of three feature-length films Viz I Am Kalam, That Girl In Yellow Boots and Troublemaker. Three documentaries like Ganesh Boy Wonder, Pink Chaddis and The Bengali Detective will also be in view.


The ever popular ‘Bollywood By Night’ series will screen three popular titles including Kiran Rao‘s drama Dhobhi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries), the romantic comedy Band Baaja Baarat ( The wedding Planner) and Shankar‘s sci-fi fantasy Robot.


The festival will be held from 12 to 17 April.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.

The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.

Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.

The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
