IFFLA announces jury of its 9th edition

MUMBAI: The jury for the 9th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) has been announced.The people who will serve in the Features section are Susan Cartsonis,Robert Koehler and Cheng-Sim Lim.


Shaz Bennett, Grace Lee and ClaudiaPuig will be in the jury for Documentary films, while the jurors in the Shorts film category are Parvesh Cheena, Myriam Despujoulets and Ravi Kapoor. 


While Cartsonis was an executive at Twentieth Century Fox for nearly a decade before she started her own company Storefront Pictures, Koehler is a film critic for Variety, Cinema Scope, Cineaste and Film Comment. Koehler has served as a juror at festivals including Cannes and Berlin. Sim Lim is an independent film curator and filmmaker with over 17 years of programming experience in a wide range of American and international cinemas.


While Bennett is a writer/filmmaker/performance artist/voiceover artist/film critic and programmer, Lee is an award winning  producer/writer/director while Puig has been a film critic at USA Today since 2001.


Cheena is a theatre, television, and film actor, while Despujoulets is a programmer of Seminars and Administrator of Fellow Affairs at the
American Film Institute Conservatory. Kapoor is an actor, writer and director.


The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles runs from 12 to 17 April.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.

The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.

Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.

The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
