UTV, Prime Focus in multi-film deal

MUMBAI:UTV Motion Pictures has entered into a strategic alliance with Prime Focus that will involve close collaboration on a slate of their movie productions.


Under this new partnership, Prime Focus will service the entire production and post-production requirement of a slate of UTV films including visual effects, digital intermediate, sound and lab services as well as provision of cameras, lenses and more.


The first film in this new partnership will be the 3D film Joker, which is bought to life by Prime Focus utilising its proprietary View-D process. Besides 3D, the global visual entertainment services group will also be providing cameras, DI, VFX and other associated services for the film.


Says Prime Focus Global CEO and Founder Namit Malhotra, “We have always had a great working relationship with UTV, and I am excited to take that relationship to the next level with this alliance. UTV Motion Pictures’ slate has been diverse and of very high technical standards. We have the best opportunity to bring out our entire service line up for UTV’s future projects.”


Adds UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur, “We have a found a partner in Prime Focus which has been making similar advances not only in India but internationally too. We look forward to bringing Prime Focus’ creative and technical capabilities to UTV films to help redefine the level of viewing experience for audiences worldwide. “


Prime Focus’ 3D services was recently chosen for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and in the past has achieved various 3D titles including The Chronicles of Narnia: The voyage of Dawn Treader, Clash of the Titans and My Soul To Take.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.

The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.

Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.

The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
