New Delhi, July 29, 2006—NDTV Profit, India’s leading business channel announced the launch of its first ‘NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards’ in New Delhi. The ‘awards that saw India’s best business leaders under one roof were presented by Honb’le Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh across fourteen different categories at a special award ceremony at Taj Palace in New Delhi.

 

Starting this year, the ‘NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards’ will honour business excellence and are aimed at recognizing companies that have shown exceptional ability across industries and have nurtured excellence.

Extensive research was carried over a period of five months to determine the nominees and the winners under the guidance of the jury that comprised of eminent personalities like Dr Amit Mitra, Ms Anu Aga, Dr Bimal Jalan, Mr Narayana Murthy, Mr Suman Dubey and Dr Prannoy Roy. Synovate, as market research partner and Ernst & Young as knowledge/audit partner were appointed by NDTV for these awards. The presenting sponsor was Allianz and the associate sponsors were Hyundai Sonata Embera, Cushman Wakefield, Forbes Group and Hindustan Times.

Mr Mukesh Ambani was presented with the Global Indian Leader award by the Honb’le Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Mr Ratan Tata was presented the Business Leader Award. The Business Leader was given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and has shown substantial contribution to her organization and the Indian Economy.

 

Awards winners in 14 different verticals were Jet Airways in Aviation, ICICI Bank in Banking, Nokia India in Consumer Durables, Hindustan Levers Limited in FMCG, Larsen & Toubro in Infrastructure, Life Insurance Corporation of India in Insurance Companies, Hewlett & Packard in IT Hardware, Infosys in IT Software, Fed Ex in Shipping & Logistics, Kotak in Mutual Fund, ONGC in Oil & Gas, Westside in Retail, Bharti Airtel in Telecom and Kerala Tourism in Travel & Tourism respectively.
