Shemaroo presents classical music on DVD

MUMBAI: In an attempt to embrace a new genre in home video, Shemaroo Video has released two home videos on classical music which get up close and personal with Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Ustad Rashid Khan.

Shemaroo says that with the release of these DVDs, classical music can be heard, seen and enjoyed with the advantage of technological enhancements and the superior viewing experience that a DVD provides. Now a connoisseur could also enjoy and the intricacies detailed in the accompanying 32-page-booklet with the artiste’s biography and the English comparing of Ragas and Bandishis and their full notations.

This gives the audience a chance to see them live in concert on a DVD. Conceived and produced by Arya Bhattacherjee, the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi DVD is a special collector’s item as it includes one of the last interviews with the maestro before his withdrawal from the world of classical music.

Shemaroo VP Hiren Gada believes that the DVDs will be widely appreciated by music lovers all over the globe. He said, “This is our first step in taking classical music to a whole new level. We are helping archive performances that go on to become a slice of history in Indian Classical Music.”
