Oprah Winfrey to develop talk shows for King World
MUMBAI: This is a deal which gives the queen of the talk show genre Oprah Winfrey the chance to strengthen her grip even further on American television. US production and syndication company King World will seek Winfrey’s help when it comes to developing talk show concepts.
A report in Broadcast and Cable stated that her first show is likely to debut in 2006. The company’s CEO Roger King declined to elaborate on plans.
The report adds that King has changed the way syndicated fare is sold, distributed, marketed and scheduled. Perfecting the art of selling shows years in advance, he persuaded TV stations covering more than 80 per cent of the US to agree to air Oprah through 2011.
Meanwhile, Winfrey co-hosted this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert with Tom Cruise. The concert honoured Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai and was broadcast live in more than 100 countries and featured musical artists such as British teen soul singer Joss Stone, opera vocalist Andrea Bocelli, jazz singer Diana Krall, and pop singers Cyndi Lauper and Patti Labelle.

The investigation stood out for its depth, on-ground rigour and national relevance.
In the ‘Civic Journalism – Print/Digital’ category, Sreya Chatterjee along with Arvind Ojha were honoured for their indiatoday.in report on unregulated water extraction and the ‘Tanker Mafia’ in Delhi’s Bawana Industrial Area. The story exposed critical systemic gaps and environmental challenges affecting daily life.
Additionally, aajtak.in was recognised in the ‘Investigative Reporting – Print/Digital’ category for its hard-hitting exposé ‘The Surrogate Mother Market’, which highlighted the human, legal and ethical dimensions of the surrogacy ecosystem.
India Today Group emerged as the only network honoured in Investigative Journalism across both Print/Digital and Broadcast categories. The wins reflect the strength of its multi-platform newsroom and its unwavering commitment to credible, high-impact reporting that informs public discourse and drives accountability.
