Harud promo faces Censor hurdle

MUMBAI: Debutante Aamir Bashir‘s film Harud that is being raved around the film festival circuit since 2010, has failed to get a theatrical release in the country yet.

And now with the film barely three weeks away from release, the director has to compromise in terms of releasing the film‘s promos in theatres with the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objecting to a scene that has the protagonists against a backdrop that reads: Aazadi. Surprisingly, while the Censors have taken objection to the promos, the film has been approved and given a U/A certificate with the controversial scene intact.

Bashir said, “Once they okay the film, how can they do this? I have decided not to run the trailer as a matter of principle. I can‘t make changes to what they have already seen and approved.”

Harud revolves round Rafiq and his family, who are struggling to come to terms with the loss of Rafiq‘s elder brother, one among the many youngsters who have disappeared since the onset of militant insurgency in Kashmir.

With the news going around that the Censor Board wants to now send the film to the revising committee, a peeved Bashir has refused to oblige and decided not to run the promos in theatres. Rather, he will put up the promos online.

Harud is being released by PVR under the Director‘s rare label on 27 July.
