Cinar arrives at Mipcom with significant sales for its two shows

CANNES: Cinar Corporation, an integrated entertainment and education company arrives at Mipcom with significant sales for two of its leading franchises, Arthur and Mona The Vampire, as was announced today by Cinar Head of Distribution Louis Fournier.

Arthur, having been rated one of the top children’s shows in the US for the last seven years, continues to have sales success internationally as well. Numerous top broadcasters around the world have aired Arthur since its premiere in 1996. Having licensed the first eight seasons totaling 105 episodes, the same broadcasters have already committed to buying Season 9 which includes ten new episodes. The broadcasters are: ABC (Australia), BBC (U.K.), CBC (Canada), TV Ontario (Canada), TVE (Spain) and RTP (Portugal).

Cinar has also had sales success with its other leading franchise, Mona The Vampire, which was recently rated the No. 1 animated series and one of the top ten children’s programs for 2002 in the U.K. as cited in the Independent Television Commission (ITC) report entitled “What Children Watch.”

A new deal has been signed with RTE, Ireland’s public broadcaster, for 52 half-hours of Mona The Vampire. Sales have also been made to BBC (U.K.), ZDF (Germany), Mediaset (Italy), YTV (Canada), SRC (Canada) and TV3 (New Zealand), leading broadcasters who have all aired the first three seasons (52 half-hours) and have now completed new deals for the fourth season (13 half hours) of Mona The Vampire.

As the curtain-raiser for the 2026 circuit, the Kolkata edition aims to fuse the energy of global Japanese pop culture with India’s fast-growing community of anime, manga, and pop-culture fans.

                                              Glimpses of Anime India Mumbai edition

Anime India Kolkata 2026 will showcase cosplay competitions, interactive zones led by the Indian Gunpla Community, India-39 Vocaloid Community, The Japan Curry, and Adda-o-Otaku by The Otaku Guild. Fans can join tournaments across fighting games, Pokémon VGC, and more. Acclaimed Japanese director Susumu Mitsunaka (Haikyu!!) will attend as guest of honour, appearing in panels and live sessions. Positioned as an immersive celebration of fan culture and industry collaboration, the Kolkata edition marks the beginning of Anime India’s nationwide expansion.

The debut edition of Anime India 2025 in Mumbai attracted over 29,000 fans, quickly cementing its status as a landmark celebration of anime and Japanese pop culture. Riding on this overwhelming response, the Kolkata chapter is projected to draw more than 40,000 visitors across two days, positioning it as one of the biggest anime conventions ever held in eastern India.
