BARC ratings: Star Bharat, Zee Anmol & Colors lead Hindi GECs

MUMBAI: Star Bharat retained its leadership in Hindi GEC (U+R) markets, whereas Zee Anmol was also able to stick to its second position this week, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all-India data for week 8 of 2018. Zee TV climbed to the fourth slot and Colors slipped to the fifth position in BARC India week 8.

With significant growth in impressions, Star Plus jumped two slots up to eight position in Hindi GEC rural markets. However, Big Magic and Colors lost their grip on the viewership by slipping one rung down in Hindi GEC rural markets for week 8.

All the ten channels in urban markets have retained their positions with Colors topping the chart in Hindi GEC urban markets.

Hindi GEC (U+R)

Star Bharat, Zee Anmol and Sony Pal retained their top three positions this week with 754202 impressions (000s), 713606 impressions (000s) and 679385 impressions (000s), respectively.

Zee TV jumped to fourth position this week with 565898 impressions (000s) and Colors slipped to fifth position with 552352 impressions (000s) during the latest week.

Star Utsav and Star Plus have retained their sixth and seventh positions with 536145 impressions (000s) and 520154 impressions (000s), respectively.

Rishtey and SET swapped their positions with Colors Rishtey being on eight with 482384 impressions (000s) and SET holding the ninth position with 445319 impressions (000s). Sony Sab retained its tenth position with 394778 impressions (000s).

Hindi Rural GEC

Zee Anmol retained its first position with 561499 impressions (000s). Sony Pal and Star Utsav retained their second and third positions with 456952 impressions (000s) and 385643 impressions (000s).

Star Bharat, Rishtey, Dangal TV, Zee TV retained their fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions with 384804 impressions (000s), 342084 impressions (000s), 254579 impressions (000s) and 224625 impressions (000s), respectively.

Star Plus jumped two slots and stood at the eight position with 157309 impressions (000s). However, Big Magic and Colors slipped one position down, respectively, to ninth and tenth positions with 155383 impressions (000s) and 152471 impressions (000s), respectively.

Hindi Urban GEC

In urban GEC, Colors and Star Bharat retained their first and second positions with 399880 impressions (000s) and 369397 impressions (000s), respectively.

Star Plus and Zee TV also maintained their third and fourth positions this week as compared to last week with 362844 impressions (000s) and 341273 impressions (000s), respectively.

SET, Sony SAB, Sony Pal, Zee Anmol, Star Utsav and Colors Rishtey retained their fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions with 321253 impressions (000s), 291464 impressions (000s), 222432 impressions (000s), 152106 impressions (000s), 150502 impressions (000s) and 140299 impressions (000s), respectively.

Asianet Television Awards 2026 celebrates women power in Malayalam TV

“She is the Colour” theme honours icons as ceremony airs on March 14 and 15 at 7 PM.

MUMBAI: If television lights up living rooms, this year Asianet decided to let women provide the colour. The Asianet Television Awards 2026 turned the spotlight firmly on women empowerment with the theme “She is the Colour”, celebrating the strength, resilience and achievements of women who continue to shape society and the Malayalam entertainment industry.

The ceremony honoured several distinguished personalities whose journeys have left a lasting cultural imprint. Among them was legendary playback singer Vimala Varma, widely recognised as the first Malayalam playback singer. The evening also paid tribute to Padma Shri awardees Devaki Amma and Vimala Menon for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

Leading women from the Malayalam film industry were also recognised during the event, including actor Shweta Menon, who currently serves as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, and National Award winning actor Surabhi Lakshmi.

The awards ceremony brought together a glittering lineup of actors and industry figures, including Jayasurya, Vijay Babu, Asha Sarath, Lena, Esther Anil, Anumol, Akhila Bhargavan, Sarayu Mohan, Prajod Kalabhavan, Gayathri Suresh, Sabumon Abdusamad, Swasika, Tini Tom, Sijoy Varghese, Kailash, Veena Nandakumar, Sabareesh Varma, Ansiba Hassan and Dinesh Prabhakar. Kishan Kumar, executive vice president Malayalam at JioStar, was also present at the event.

Beyond individual recognitions, the awards celebrated excellence across Malayalam television, acknowledging artists and technicians whose work continues to drive the industry forward.

The evening also offered plenty of spectacle, with elaborate dance performances, stunt acts and comedy skits performed by popular television and film personalities, turning the ceremony into a full fledged entertainment showcase.

Viewers will get to watch the celebrations when the Asianet Television Awards 2026 air on Asianet on March 14 and 15, Saturday and Sunday, from 7 pm onwards, bringing the star studded tribute to homes across Kerala and beyond.
