Hopefully, it’s a movie that kids love: Josh Lucas on Lionsgate’s Black Demon

Mumbai: Family fun with a twist! Lionsgate Play exclusively brings to your screens, the shark-venture of the season, Black Demon starring the dashing Josh Lucas in the lead. Threatening Josh and his family though, is an ancient curse, placed by Angry Gods. This curse spares none, as the lonesome Megalodon that circles the oil rig of El Diamante, attacks anyone that gets close, bringing down nature’s wrath upon them. This Lionsgate Play thriller starring Fernanda Urrejola, Julio Cesar Cedillo, and Venus Ariel alongside Josh Lucas is set to premiere exclusively on 8 September.

Talking about Black Demon and his reason for making it, actor Josh Lucas said, “The Black Demon is a classic action-adventure shark story. And without a doubt, one of the things I think that makes it special is that it’s got a very family at its core, a young family at its core. So hopefully, it’s a movie that kids love. It’s a movie that hopefully parents will love. I partly made this movie because I have a nine-year-old boy who loves these kinds of movies.”

The actor further drew parallels with the classic Jurassic Park franchise and said, “We saw Jurassic Park movies a few days before I got this script. The first scene – in that one of them is Megalodon, right? And so in this movie, we have a giant Megalodon shark, an ancient shark, who’s haunting the movie and has been sort of cursed on this oil rig in this part of the land by an angry God. And it’s a very amazing story of, you know, nature versus man versus environmental problems that we’re all facing all kinds of colliding together, hopefully in a really fun action film.. a really fun kind of scary action film.“

MUMBAI: Short stories are getting shorter and sharper. Tata Play Binge is doubling down on snackable storytelling, adding Pocket Films to its micro-drama hub Shots as it looks to capture India’s fast-growing appetite for quick-consumption content. The move expands Shots into a deeper, more diverse catalogue, now featuring over 210 micro-dramas and 220 hours of short-format programming across genres such as action, drama and thriller. The content spans Hindi and key regional languages, reflecting the increasingly local yet mobile-first nature of viewing habits.

Pocket Films brings with it a library of emotionally driven, culturally rooted narratives, including micro-dramas like Chaturanga, Vidushi, Maasa, Silent Cycle and Pilibhit, alongside short films such as Lock-up, Dubki and The Disguise. The addition builds on existing partnerships with Bullet and Stage, strengthening Shots as a one-stop destination for bite-sized storytelling.

Designed for vertical viewing, the platform leans into scroll-friendly interfaces, auto-play sequencing and seamless discovery mirroring the habits of always-on, digital-first audiences. The content remains ad-supported and is available within the Tata Play Binge app at no additional cost.

The integration also sits within a broader aggregation strategy. Tata Play Binge currently offers access to 30 plus OTT services including Prime Video, JioHotstar, Zee5 and Apple TV+ through a single subscription and interface, aiming to simplify fragmented streaming consumption.

As platforms race to keep up with shrinking attention spans, Tata Play Binge’s bet is straightforward: when stories get shorter, the catalogue needs to get bigger and faster.
