Rat Race wins at Kerala Intl. docu and short film fest

MUMBAI: Miriam Chandy Meenacherry’s The Rat Race has been named the ‘Best Long Documentary’ at the 5th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala.

Bombay Snow, directed by Chinmay Nagesh Dalvi, was also declared the ‘Best Short Fiction’.

In the short fiction category, the ‘Jury Special Mention’ awards was given to Deepthi Kurana’s Rizwan and Sattu´s Goggles by Shaheen Muhammed.

In the Long Documentary category, the Jury Special Mention award was lapped up by Akansha Joshi for Earth Witness: Reflections on the Times and Timeless.

I am Micro, directed by Shumona Goel and Shai Heredia, won the Best Short Documentary while the Jury Special Mention award was bagged by Mohan Kumar Valsala’s The Five Elements by Walter D´Cruz’s Girl with the Kite.

While Tushar B.More’s Karim Barber was adjudged the Best Animation film award, Viveka Chauhan’s Inspiration won the award for Best Music Video. The prize for Best Campus Film went to One Rupee by Rojin Thomas. The Navroz Contractor Award for best cinematography was lapped up by Sunny Lahiri for The Five Elements.

The Festival was held from 8 to 12 June in Thiruvananthapuram.

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s popularity contest has a new weekly scorecard, and the numbers are telling. IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities list for this week places Shanaya Kapoor at number six, buoyed by buzz around her film Tu Yaa Main. Naila Grrewal slots in at seven on the back of the returning comedy series Maamla Legal Hai, while Rashmika Mandanna climbs to eighth, riding mounting anticipation for Cocktail 2.

The list, available exclusively on the IMDb app for Android and iOS, tracks trending Indian entertainers and filmmakers each week, drawing on data from more than 200m monthly visits to the platform worldwide.

Further down the rankings, Raaka is keeping two of its biggest names in the spotlight. Deepika Padukone holds 11th position, with Allu Arjun close behind at 13th, as the film continues to find traction with audiences.

The list offers fans a weekly pulse on who is breaking through, who is holding steady, and who is fading. It is a barometer as unsparing as the box office itself.
