MTV will start New Year with concert for US troops

MTV

Popular music channel MTV announced that it, along with Armed Forces Entertainment and The United Service Organisations (USO), will produce a concert event dedicated to America's armed forces. The concert will be part of a 90-minute holiday television special called 'For the Troops: An MTV/ USO Special.'

The channel views the event as an inventive way to connect with its audience.

The show will be hosted by Carson Daly and will air in America on New Year's Day at 2:00 pm (ET/PT). There is no information available as yet when it will air in Asia. Artistes who will perform include Jennifer Lopez, Kid Rock and Ja Rule.

MTV Networks is a unit of Viacom International Inc. USO is a Congressionally chartered, nonprofit organisation. For 60 years it has organised similar events for the country's military personnel. It is supported by The Walt Disney Company and ESPN, among others.
