Samsung launches three new advanced handsets

New Delhi, December 9,2005: Global technology leader, Samsung, today, further strengthened its mobile offering in the country, by launching 3 new, advanced Handsets in the market, thereby plugging various price points in the market. The X 700, being launched today, is a 1.3 Megapixel, Triband, Bar type phone with advanced features like GPRS Class 10, Bluetooth /USB Connectivity, Stereo FM Radio, Video Recording and Messaging, External Memory (Trans Flash) and Mobile Printing. It is priced at Rs.14, 699/-.

The SGH -N 710, being launched today, is an ultra light weight, stylish, compact, Bar Phone. Weighing a mere 76 gms, this Dual band, B/W phone is priced at Rs.3199/-

In the Folder category, Samsung, today introduced its stylish, tri band, SGH -X660 in the Indian market. This handset has advanced features like Video Recording and Messaging capability, Photo Caller Id, 8 Mb Dynamic Memory, MP3 Ring tones, Speaker Phone and VGA/CMOS camera .It is priced at Rs.8599/-.

Samsung, recently also announced the launch of its 2 Mega pixel, quad band masterpiece, the SGH D-600 in the Indian market. File Viewer, Bluetooth wireless sharing and mobile printing, PictBridge, TV Output support, Sync ML DS, Email client capabilities, USB 1.1 and TransFlash memory combine to make the D-600 a mobile office master. The world's smallest removable storage module, TransFlash supplements the existing mobile phone storage while allowing for easy transfer of personal content. A music player adds to its abilities with MP3/AAC/AAC+ as well as dual speakers for 3D sound and Bluetooth stereo headset compatibility. It is priced at Rs.23, 999/-.

With the launch of these new handsets, Samsung now has a range of 18 handsets in the Indian market, priced in the range Rs.3199/- to Rs.23, 999/-.

Samsung to set up a mobile handset facility in India

New Delhi, December 9, 2005: Global technology leader, Samsung today announced its plans to set up a Handset Manufacturing Facility at Manesar in Gurgaon, Haryana. This is Samsung's fourth overseas handset manufacturing facility in the world after China, Brazil and Mexico. To be set up with an investment of US$ 15 Million, this Facility will have an initial Plant Capacity of 1 Million units per annum, which will be stepped up to 20 Million units per annum by the Year 2010. "We plan to make this Mobile Facility as the Manufacturing Hub for South West Asia," stated Mr. H C Ryu, Director -Telecom, Samsung India, at a Press Conference held in the Capital today.

The Company plans to commence mass production at this facility by the end of the first Quarter 2006. "The setting up of this facility will be a critical turning point for our Mobile Business in the country", stated Mr. Ryu. "It will help us respond faster to the market and the needs of Indian customers, go in for greater product customization and be in a position to fully tap the potential of this fast growing, Indian mobile market". The Company plans to manufacture a few GSM Handsets models from its 2006 line up at the Manesar facility, while the balance will continue to be imported. The Company will also customize these models with the help of Samsung India Software Operations unit (SISO), Samsung's R&D Centre located at Bangalore.

The initial Capital that is being brought in by Samsung for this Facility is US$ 10 Mn. In the first Year, this highly advanced, automated facility will employ approx. 200 people.

Speaking on the Company's Business Plans for the coming Year, stated Mr. Ryu, "We plan to continue with our thrust on the Colour/Camera segment in the Indian market. We will leverage our global leadership in Design, Display and Camera, to introduce innovative, leading technology products in the Indian market. "Around 90% of Samsung handset sales this Year will come from the Colour and Camera phone segment.
