Sports TV market Sportel Monaco to focus on TV-to-Mobile technologies

MUMBAI: The sports television market Sportel Monaco, which traditionally brings together the most important players from the worlds of sport and television, will this year turn its focus on the developments taking place in the field of TV-to-mobiles technologies.

The event takes place from 24-27 October 2005 in Monaco, France.

Sports content, as it has done with cable, satellite and pay-per-view systems, is being counted on as a critical component to spur the growth of the TV-to-Mobiles industry. And this new distribution platform will in turn significantly change the way sports TV pictures are consumed, clearly triggering changes in the sports rights market place. Sportel Monaco 2005 has therefore created a number of initiatives on the theme : TV-to-Mobiles. The aimed is to explain, demonstrate and promote an exchange of ideas.

A document The state of the Art in TV-to-Mobiles compiled by Sportel Monaco will be issued to the press and participants. It will suggest paths of reflection to determine the future impact of these new technologies on the sports rights marketplace. A TV-to-Mobiles area on the market floor will be utilised to display live images on mobile devices. A journalist specialising in the “TV-to-Mobiles” phenomenon explain the latest developments and answer questions.

There will also be a Round Table discussion What Mobile Media Means for Sports. It is being organised by Alcatel and will feature Alcatel Mobile, Communications Group GM new media projects Scott Robinson. There will also be an international symposium panel who will debate the subject of New Screens for Sport. The speakers will include Orange France CEO Didier Quillot and Fifa broadcasting and media rights head Niclas Ericson.
