Zee touches Rs 108 even as sensex, media stocks fall

MUMBAI: The barometer 30-stock Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensex dropped 28.68 points on 18 July from the 11 July level (3,676.26) to settle at 3,647.58. The S&P CNX NSE Nifty ended the day at 1,140 a drop of 21.65 points as compared to 1161.65 on 11 July.
Market observers say that the recent stock rally that saw the sensex gain 20 per cent seems to be over. During this week, FMCG companies and technology stocks took a beating even as volumes dropped considerably.
There was an announcement that the BSE 30-share sensex will go free float from 1 September in an effort to be in line with other global indices such as MSCI, Nasdaq-100, Dow Jones, FTSE amongst others. A press release says that the BSE will calculate the sensex's value using the free float methodology (that is proportion of total shares issued by the company that is actually available for trading) as against the full market capitalisation methodology used at present.
