Mobile TV service provider MobiTV goes WiFi

MUMBAI: MobiTV, which provides television and digital radio services for mobile devices, has launched the WiFi enabled MobiTV service for the Palm T|X handheld in the US.
With the bandwidth available through most WiFi networks, MobiTV will deliver broadcast quality television at 24 frames per second and offer more than a dozen channels including ABC News Now, Bloomberg, C-Span, Comedy Time, ESPN 3GTV, Fashion TV, Fox News, Fox Sports, Maxx Sports, NanoTV, The Weather Channel and ToonWorld TV, with more channels to be added over time.
Subscribers will be able to connect to MobiTV over home and corporate WiFi networks as well as the over 30,000 WiFi hotspots available in the US.
MobiTV co-founder and COO Paul Scanlan says, "This launch signifies MobiTV's foray into non-cellular network environments. This is the industry's first true video-rich, high quality mobile entertainment experience connecting
the world of mobile television with broadband enabled data networks. We are redefining mobile television or television on the go by freeing subscribers from network limitations and availability."
Palm senior VP worldwide marketing Ken Wirt says, "For many PDA customers, multimedia applications have become the white-hot solution. The MobiTV Service demonstrates the power of WiFi integrated Palm products, delivering entertainment and other relevant content directly into the hands of our customers."
The MobiTV WiFi version is similar to the MobiTV offering for Palm Treo 650 smartphones featuring a simple, TV-like interface that includes a graphical channel guide and support for channel navigation and volume control using the familiar five-way native Palm navigation and touch screen capabilities. The service will be available through the MobiTV web site at www.mobitv.com,
