SPTI acquires distribution rights for anime series 'Blood Plus'

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) has reached an agreement with Aniplex.
SPTI has acquired the television and home video distribution rights for the Japanese anime series Blood Plus in Asia (outside of Japan), Latin America, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
The series, which will consist of 50 episodes, will be offered at NATPE 2006 in Las Vegas. The event kicks off tomorrow. Distribution on DVD for the series will be handled by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Based on anime video title Blood the Last Vampire, Blood Plus focusses on the ongoing conflict between two groups: the evil Chiropterans, bat-like monsters with super-human strength and speed that can change their appearance to look like and infiltrate the humans upon whom they prey, and the Red Shield, a secret organisation whose goal is to track down and exterminate the Chiropterans.
Amidst this chaos is an unlikely heroine, a mysterious high-school girl with little recollection of her past, living a peaceful life with her family, unaware that at one time she was a great warrior who battled the Chiropterans. The Red Shield turns to her, and her sword, in their battle against the Chiropterans.
The series premiered in Japan in October 2005, where it aired on Mainichi Broadcasting System and Tokyo Broadcasting System.
