MTV India to premiere Coldplay concert live on 5 June

MUMBAI: MTV International will premiere the new special MTV Live – Coldplay, the first televised concert worldwide in support of the band’s highly anticipated new release X&Y, on 5 June.

MTV India will air the concert at 11:30 pm. On 4 June, X & Y is being released internationally. The special will premiere as a 60-minute concert on 24 MTV channels around the world.
 

According to MTV India, the show was taped last month at a church in East London. The band played a set of tracks from X&Y along with earlier hits, including the new single Speed of Sound and Yellow (from the album Parachutes) and Clocks (from A Rush Of Blood To The Head).

As part of the promotion, EMI and 20 of MTV’s international channels sent competition winners to London from Asia, Latin America, and Europe to attend the live concert.

“We were quite nervous before filming MTV Live because it was our first London show for ages, but the reception we got was amazing. The fans were brilliant and we loved the setting," Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been quoted in a release as saying.

In addition, MTV will broadcast a new 30-minute special, All Eyes on Coldplay, where leading artists ask the band questions about the making of X&Y and their forthcoming world tour.
 
 

All Eyes on Coldplay will premiere on 23 of MTV’s international channels on 5 June as well. Artists featured in the special include Stereophonics, Noel Gallagher, Xzibit, Foo Fighters, Faith Evans, Jamie Cullum, Hanson, The Kills, Bloc Party, Bizarre, and Kelis.

Coldplay, the band comprises of Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Will Champion (drums), and Chris Martin (vocals, guitar, keyboards). Formed in London in 1998, the band signed to Parlophone the following year.

Following the release of X&Y, Coldplay will embark on their Twisted Logic Tour with the first concert starting in Paris, France on 9 June, informs the press release.
