Disney to shut down Japanese cartoon unit

TOKYO: Walt Disney has decided to close its cartoon studio in Tokyo. This will result in over 100 animators and other employees losing their jobs. . 
Reports indicate that the Japanese unit will close as soon as its done drawing The Heffalump Movie . This is a spinoff of Winnie the Pooh. The Tokyo studio made Piglet's Big Movie and The Tigger Movie. But a report in the Hollywood Reporter said that Disney had decided it was excess capacity.
The company issued a statement saying "Our experience working in Japan for the past 14 years has been outstanding, primarily because of the world-class artists and executives who have produced exceptional animation. However, after reviewing our business plans and production requirements, we determined we no longer can support this additional production capacity."
