Freida Pinto's Trishna for Venice Film Festival

MUMBAI: Freida Pinto will accompany her film Trishna to the 68th Venice Film Festival where it would have its European premiere.

The film, placed in the competition section, is an adaptation of Thomas Hardy‘s novel Tess of the d‘Urbervilles. The Michael Winterbottom directed film follows the tragic relationship between a property developer‘s son and a rickshaw owner‘s daughter.

Films by Polanski, Cronnenberg, Soderbergh, Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, Madonna, Chantal Akerman, Fatih Akin, and other top line festival favourite directors are likely to be screened at the festival.

While George Clooney‘s The Ides Of March will open the festival, Whit Stillman‘s film Damsels In Distress will be the closing film.

Films by nine first time directors will be featured in the Critics‘ Week section, while seven of them will vie for the Golden Lion of The Future award given to the film that gets most of the Audience votes.

The Festival will be held between 31 August and 10 September.
