Anurag Kashyap to co-produce Gandu maker's next

MUMBAI: Going by the response that Kaushik Mukherjee‘s Gandu has been getting internationally, Anurag Kashyap has shown his willingness to co-produce his upcoming project based on Tagore‘s work Tasher Desh.

"Normally, I require foreign funding for my movies. But this time around, I wanted someone from India to support the cause of independent cinema. Anurag and I share similar thoughts on cinema. We discussed this project and finalised the co-production deal," details Mukherjee.

According to Mukherjee, the film will be a psychedelic and intense rendition of the work of Tagore. Tasher Desh is considered to be an experimental work. "It is an abberation and not much research is available on it, "Mukherjee observed.

Meanwhile, Kashyap‘s planned period film Bombay Velvet will no longer have Aamir Khan in the lead. "I am going ahead with Bombay Velvet without Aamir. He is a very busy man and I have waited long enough. I don‘t even know if he wants to do the film," Kashyap has reportedly said. The Dev.D director reportedly grew impatient waiting for Khan to wrap up his other commitments and has decided to go ahead without Khan.

Bombay Velvet is an adaptation of historical work Mumbai Fables, which is set in post-independence India in the 1960s. The book by Gyan Prakash aims to tell the history of the old city through the many intersecting stories of its residents.

The film is being produced by Studio 18.
