Live8 success inspires record sales

MUMBAI: Music companies HMV and Virgin Music have capitalised on the success of the Live8 concert held on 2 July.

Both the companies have claimed that the Pink Floyd performance, which had its classic line-up for the first time in 24 years, led to a large increase in sales.

Over one million people listened to rock and pop musicians at 10 venues across four continents demanding that the G8 nations move to help Africa when they meet for a summit in Scotland on 6 July.

According to HMV, Pink Floyd's Echoes, which features three of the numbers they performed on Saturday, sold 1,000 copies on Sunday, 13 times more than a week before.
