BANGALORE: Around twenty thousand fair price shops in Karnataka, selling goods t lower rates, are about to undergo a revamp and a change of nomenclature.

As per media reports, the government has plans to sell other market items at market prices through these shops.

The State Food and Civil Supplies (SFCS) Minister Mahadev Prasad has been quoted in media reports as saying, the government is also planning to create a uniform exterior for fair price shops to enable easy identification of a fair price shop.

The government also considers attaching a fixed number of ration cards to a particular fair price shop, rather than collecting food stamps from a particular point and exchanging for, or purchasing subsidized food grains.
