Empowerment is the ability to make rational choices.

Mumbai: Today, women are breaking the glass ceiling in every sector. Beyond all this, there still exists a patriarchal mindset. Not many women are in the C-suite taking important decisions. And, of course, there still exists pay parity.

This Women’s Day, we, at Indiantelevision.com, are acknowledging some women leaders of the media, marketing, and advertising fraternity and also from other professions, who have given more than expected.

Her Journey

Life-changing moment, nothing too dramatic. I took on the path of entry early, due to the 2008 recession. My father was heading an American company that shut down. I was only 21, preparing for CAT, when I decided to scale up my freelancing assignments and incorporate a company, hiring a team of writers. The recession was also an opportunity as many companies were outsourcing work, and we could get companies like NIIT and Tata Interactive to work with us.

Her inspiration & inspiring the team

I don't believe people inspire, their views do. And I pick up views from several people. Won't pinpoint a particular person as an inspiration, but my parents have been a huge influence in shaping my thought process. Their views on adding value to people, and enabling people have helped me become who I am. I am not sure if I inspire people, but I try to enable people around me to achieve what they have set out to.

Empowerment of women:

To me, empowerment is the ability to make rational choices. The day we stop talking about 'women' empowerment, in a gendered way, we would be truly empowered. Till then, we need to work toward equipping women with knowledge and wisdom to choose what works best for them.
