Director Pradeep Sarkar bids adieu to the world

Mumbai: Popular ad filmmaker and feature filmmaker, writer, director, & founder of Apocalypso Filmsworks, Pradeep Sarkar, has passed away. He is known for directing hit films like Parineeta, Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Mardaani and Helicopter Eela. People from the ad industry and Bollywood are paying their tributes to him.

Aged 68, reports reveal that Sarkar was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically. He passed away in a hospital where he was rushed to at 3 am. He left for his heavenly abode around 3.30 a.m on 24 March.

Sarkar began his career with Vinod Chopra Productions, the production company of director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. After working 17 years in mainstream advertising as creative director - art, he began his directorial journey as an ad-film maker. Apart from commercials, Sarkar is also one of the most sought-after and prolific music video directors around.

His foray into feature films produced the critically acclaimed Parineeta, winning him the acclaimed National Film Award in the Best Debut Film of a Director category. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Abby Award, Rapa Award and the National Film Award. His next three feature films were Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Lafangey Parindey, and Mardaani. His latest, Eela, starring Kajol, was produced by Ajay Devgn Films and was released in October 2018.
