YouTube TV adds ESPN Unlimited to live sports lineup

MUMBAI: YouTube TV is taking its sports offering into extra time. The streaming service has officially added ESPN Unlimited, bringing ESPN’s live sports and programming directly into YouTube TV as the autumn sports calendar gets underway.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced the integration, which gives subscribers access to a broader ESPN offering without having to leave the YouTube TV experience.

The lineup includes live events such as the US Open tennis, NCAA College Football, PGA Tour golf, WWE Premium Live Events, LALIGA and out-of-market NHL games. Subscribers will also get ESPN studio programming, including The Rich Eisen Show, ESPN Originals and Films, along with the complete ESPN 30 for 30 documentary library.

ESPN Unlimited is available to customers on YouTube TV’s main plan and plans that include Sports.

The integration goes beyond simply adding another channel. YouTube TV is introducing a set of features aimed at making live sports easier to find, follow and customise.

Viewers can switch between available language options, home and away feeds and alternate camera angles, while personalised rows are designed to surface live events more quickly.

Its multiview feature also allows viewers to build their own combinations of games and events when multiple fixtures are taking place simultaneously. And for anyone who arrives late to a match, Key Plays provides a shortcut to the important moments without requiring them to start from the beginning.

ESPN Unlimited content will also work with YouTube TV’s existing scores, stats and unlimited DVR features.

The ESPN integration comes with an updated live guide. It now places three rows of currently airing ESPN Unlimited live events at the top, followed by a dedicated network row for additional programming.

A redesigned station picker will show the different feeds available for individual games, including language choices, home and away broadcasts and alternate camera views.

YouTube TV is also bringing ESPN’s fantasy football ecosystem into the mix.

Its Fantasy View feature will now support ESPN Fantasy Football, allowing users to link their ESPN accounts through YouTube TV settings ahead of the NFL season.

Once connected, fantasy players can keep track of their teams while watching live NFL games, reducing the need to bounce between screens during matches.

With ESPN Unlimited now folded into YouTube TV, the platform is betting that sports fans would rather have one well-stocked viewing hub than juggle multiple services. For viewers, the real game is now not just what’s on screen, but how much of the sports experience can stay on it.
