MUMBAI: Running out of cooking gas may soon be as easy to fix as ordering milk or groceries. Instamart has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to launch what it calls India’s first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service on a quick commerce platform, bringing a key household essential into the instant-delivery ecosystem.

The service will debut in Bengaluru, where customers can order HP Navya, HPCL’s newly introduced 10 kg composite LPG cylinder, along with the 5 kg metal LPG cylinder, directly through the Instamart app.

The launch marks another step in the rapid expansion of quick commerce beyond groceries, with platforms increasingly adding high-trust, everyday essentials to their offerings.

HP Navya has been designed for urban consumers seeking a lighter and more convenient LPG option. The 10 kg composite cylinder is corrosion-resistant, features enhanced safety measures and comes with a translucent body that allows users to monitor gas levels without guesswork. Its compact design targets apartments, small families, students, working professionals and households looking for a secondary LPG cylinder.

Unlike conventional domestic LPG connections, the service does not require an existing household LPG connection, making it accessible to a broader customer base.

Customers can order their preferred cylinder through Instamart like any other product. The first order is treated as a new cylinder purchase, while subsequent refills are completed by returning the empty HPCL cylinder at the time of delivery.

To ensure compliance with safety regulations, deliveries will be fulfilled through HPCL’s authorised distributor network, with trained personnel handling transportation and handover. First-time buyers will also undergo identity verification, supported by proof-of-delivery documentation.

For Instamart, which now offers more than 50,000 SKUs, the partnership signals its ambition to become an all-purpose convenience platform rather than just a grocery delivery service. For HPCL, it opens a new digital distribution channel as the state-owned energy company looks to make LPG more accessible through technology-enabled services.

The collaboration reflects how India’s quick commerce sector is steadily moving into essential services, with speed increasingly becoming a competitive advantage not just for snacks and staples, but for products that households rely on every day.
