MUMBAI: Starting at Rs 46 per month, Tata Sky has launched new packs of regional channels. With NCF and taxes, the total price comes to Rs 199 per month.

With the launch of the 'Lite pack', the direct-to-home (DTH) operator hopes to target the regional consumers through the Indian Premier Leauge (IPL) and Election season.

According to media reports,  a niche demographic of users can actually trigger a price war in India with such low costs.

Among the regional languages, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada are available via the regional packs that have been spotted in the Tata Sky app.  Compared to other regional packs, these 'Lite packs' for Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages seem to be 25 per cent less expensive.

Tata Sky Smart packs also bundle a few other regional channels and offer them to the consumers. The plan includes Hindi Smart Plan, Punjabi Smart plan, Gujarati Smart plan, Bengali Smart plan, Telugu Smart plan, Kannada Smart plan and Malayalam Smart plan for Rs 249 each.

Similarly, Bengali Smart plan, Odiya Smart plan and Marathi Smart plan are priced at Rs 220, Rs 211 and Rs 206 respectively.
