Scopus Network Technologies, which supplies digital TV platforms to the cable and satellite industries, has introduced the Intelligent Video Gateway (IVG) for Cable TV applications, the IVG-7300 series. The IVG-7300 is the first element for the implementation of Scopus’ Intelligent Video Network (IVN) concept to enhance video routing, processing and management over broadband networks.

Aimed at the high-end Cable TV market, Scopus developed the Intelligent Video Gateway to enable cable operators to offer “Triple Play” – video, data and voice – applications to their customers. A scalable head-end in a box residing at the master head-end, the IVG is housed in a 1RU chassis and encompasses state-of-the-art technologies to provide ‘Everything on Demand’ solutions.

An official release informs that the IVG’s capabilities include video routing and processing, advanced video processing for MPEG protocol conversion, Dynamic Session Allocation (DSA), seamless Digital Program Insertion (DPI) and bit-rate reduction and Joint Rate Allocation (JRA) for optimal bandwidth allocation using rate reduced digital turn around services that simultaneously control local encoders in the same statistical multiplexing group.

The IVN system topology is the latest step forward in digital networks for content management, contribution and distribution applications and answers the needs of DTH broadcasters and video C&D (Contribution and Distribution) service providers.

Scopus’ IVN concept represents the next generation topology for video networking by employing advanced video routers to process, control and route digital-to-digital video signals throughout a network. IVN encompasses the entire network infrastructure and enables two-dimensional control over bandwidth from the master head-end through the network backbone to the regional head-ends and down to each specific node, hub or remote site. Its network management system utilises an advanced topology to support end-to-end system control and service restoration.

The IVG-7300 is capable of video routing, re-multiplexing and grooming down to the PID (Programme Identification) level. It comes fully equipped with conditional access interfaces and scrambling per each ASI output, DVB and ATSC support, Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) bit rate reduction and seamless DPI in accordance with SCTE30/35 standard for cueing and API. The IVG-7300 can simultaneously handle 16 carriers per unit, 400 programmes processing to be outputted at up to six ASI ports.
