Easy Navigation

Since these websites are primarily targeted at kids, maximum effort is made to make them as easy navigable as possible. The Cartoon Network and Nick websites are designed and run by the respective companies in-house teams.

On the other hand, the Disney site is a mix of international ready assets and localised designs. The India website for the channel has been designed and maintained by Virtual Marketing. Animax website too is designed by a third party agency in accordance with the Animax branding guidelines.

Hungama TV's website is being designed and maintained by Webpercept. "The site structure and links are being kept simple and easy to spot. The language used is simple and direct and we are using Hinglish for broadbasing the site content," explains Mehta.

"As the site is primarily targeted at kids, we try and make sure that navigation is as user friendly as possible, so kids can readily access games and information. Special features such as current contests, new shows and games are highlighted prominently on the main page," said Krishnani.

Nick has limited the navigation to a maximum of three levels. "The graphic elements are also kept 'light' to shorten downloading time. The staple and featured sections are highlighted as 'hotlinks' at the bottom of every page. We also get kids to voice out what improvements they would like to see in the website," said Tan.

Disney too goes the Nick way as far as the three levels of navigation are concerned. "Quick links and short cuts have been deliberately designed to ensure that everything is not more than three clicks away. The copy too is child friendly. The do's and don'ts are clearly spelled out and since the primary audience of the sites is kids, we ensure that the links and instructions are all visually cued. We use text only as visual support or only when there is no visual alternative. Special care is also taken to design the site such that it loads quickly keeping kids' short attention span in mind," explains Shah.

Animax has a feature on its website where kids can search for programs either by date, time or title. The current month's key highlights are located in the center of the homepage with the relevant trailers easily available for viewing. "The key to making the site easily navigable is to keep the information source consistent. That way, viewers will know where to go straight away when they log on," says Tsui.
