MUMBAI:
Tiger Woods, the finest contemporary golfer in the world, and perhaps
of all time, will start his 2008 season when he takes part in this
weeks $5.2 million Buick Invitational.
Woods,
the undisputed number one in the world and winner of Buick Invitational
in four of his last five starts including the last three
years goes up against a quality field at Torrey Pines North
and South courses from 24 January, and the much anticipated tournament
will be seen live and exclusive on Ten Sports, the most watched
sports channel in the Sub-continent.
The
live coverage of the tournament on Ten Sports starts from 25 January,
at 1:30 am IST and ends with the final days coverage starting
at the same time (1:30am IST) on 28 January. The coverage of the
second round will be delayed and starts 3:30 am IST on 27 January.
Tiger
proved in December last year how quickly he can get back into the
groove when he tore apart a quality field in his own Target World
Challenge, and won the title by seven shots despite coming off a
ten-week break.
But
it is not just Woods who will be hoping for a fast start to the
season. Also in the field is Phil Mickelson, who will be eager to
build up on his success at the end of last year, which saw him win
on the PGA Tour and the HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
The
Indian interest will centre around Daniel Chopra, who won the season-opening
winners-only Mercedes Benz Championship in Hawaii.
Also
in the field are Masters champion Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, KJ Choi
and Vijay Singh.
Ten
Sports is the definitive home for golf action in the Subcontinent,
with the channel telecasting action from one of the biggest Tours
in the world the US PGA.
