MUMBAI:
Ten Sports, the most watched sports channel of the sub-continent,
remains the definitive crystal ball for millions of motor sports
fans as it continues to bring live the GP2 Series of motor sports
this time the penultimate race of the season from the Spa-Francorchamps
circuit, one of the worlds truly great racing circuits, in
Belgium.
The
GP2 Series, also known as the Feeder Series to the Formula One,
was started by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Renault F1 boss
Flavio Briatore in 2005. With champions like Nico Rosberg and Lewis
Hamilton, who have graduated with flying colours to the F1 series,
the GP2 has more than met its stated objectives of creating champions
of the future.
The
GP2 Spa-Francorchamps from Belgium will be available live on Ten
Sports. Race 1 is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, at 7:30
pm (IST), while Race 2 is on Sunday, September 16, at 1:30 pm.
Two
weekends remain in the 2007 GP2 Series, and as the teams prepare
for the final furlong, the championship is still wide open with
Timo Glock leading by 11 points over Lucas di Grassi. It promises
to be an exciting battle between the two in Belgium.
The
challenge of Spa is always vast. One of the most challenging tracks
to drive in existence, the tests for the GP2 Series drivers will
be one of the greatest of the season. Spa comes back on the GP2
series after a years absence.
In
2005, the weekend was disrupted heavily by the inclement weather,
which always seems to play a part in Spa. Nelson Piquet Jr took
his first GP2 Series win then, while the rain-affected sprint was
won by Adam Carroll.
Following
his podium and Race 2 win, Timo Glock leads the championship on
78 points, 11 ahead of Lucas di Grassi on 67. Luca Filippi sits
third on 50, one ahead of Giorgio Pantano on 49 with Kazuki Nakajima
on 36 and Adam Carroll on 35.
In
the teams championship, iSport International are almost ensured
of the title. They have now broken 100 and lead on 108, as much
as 31 ahead of ART on 77. Super Nova International are third on
63.
