MUMBAI:
CNN-IBN's Rasika Tyagi recently completed the first 22-member civilian
expedition to the Siachen Glacier. Upon undertaking this historic
journey, organized by the Indian Army after a span of 30 years,
she became the first Indian woman journalist to brave the extreme
conditions and reach 16,500 feet! Throughout her 23-day long arduous
trek she regularly filed reports with CNN-IBN sharing with viewers
her experiences from the World's highest battlefield. These vivid
accounts have been compiled in a one hour Siachen Special - 'Scaling
New Heights' -that will air on October 19 at 9:30 pm only on CNN-IBN.
It will also be repeated on Saturday, 20th October at 8 pm.
For
any person who has not received specialised training to endure such
a severe environment, walking up to the Siachen Glacier is a gruelling
experience. 'Scaling New Heights' is a travelogue unlike any other
in which Rasika describes what it was like preparing for this once-in-a-lifetime
journey and the demanding physical and climatic conditions one has
to confront at such high altitudes.
The
special also sheds light on the unavoidable issue of the Indo-Pak
conflict in the region and the adversities faced by Indian soldiers
who are positioned on the glacier for three-months at a stretch.
Don't miss this breathtaking first-hand report from the biggest
glacier outside the poles.
"'Scaling New Heights' provides a first-hand look at the Siachen
glacier, which incidentally also possesses some of the most extreme
physical and climatic conditions. Rasika Tyagi's vivid account of
her experiences will provide the viewers a never-before seen side
of the World's highest battleground!" Said, Rajdeep Sardesai,
Editor-in-Chief, CNN-IBN & IBN 7.
