Who will be India's next President? IBN 7, CNN-IBN & The Express Group launch unique opinion poll on the most desirable Presidential candidate

NEW DELHI: IBN 7 and CNN-IBN have joined hands with The Express Group in launching a two-week long opinion poll - 'Your President' (on CNN-IBN) and 'Aapka Rashtrapati' (on IBN 7). This poll is two-fold, which on one hand approaches MP's and MLA's (constituting the Electoral College) to share their opinion on who best deserves to be India's next Presidential candidate, and on the other hand also seeks to discern the public's voice on the same. The series will close on May 26th with a one-hour special set in an outdoor location, evocative of the President's high stature, on both IBN 7 and CNN-IBN. During the episode both the survey results will be discussed and analysed to get an idea of the pulse of the nation and finally the public's verdict will be declared.

While the final candidates are yet to be nominated, sensing the sentiments of the public and the mood of the legislative members, the IBN Network editorial has short listed 8 names for the post: The incumbent - Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam; External Affairs Minister - Pranab Mukherjee; Union Power Minister - Sushil Kumar Shinde; veteran Congress leader - Karan Singh; Chairman of Infosys Technologies Ltd. - N. R. Narayana Murthy; incumbent Vice-President - Bhairon Singh Shekhawat; Lok Sabha Speaker - Somnath Chaterjee and the of popular culture - Amitabh Bachchan. As per popular belief what the people and members of the alliance are looking for is simple - someone who is secular and knows his politics!

The scope of this promising alliance will entail the merging of editorial and marketing synergies between these leading media powerhouses. That is to say, the poll and regular updates on who is leading will be carried in all Express publications - The Indian Express, Financial Express, Jansatta and Loksatta - on a daily basis.

The five-year long tenure of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, India's incumbent President, is soon to expire. With wavering support for running for second term, the post of 'Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces' is up for contest. Who will be the nation's next Head of State? While the decision does not lie in the hands of the people IBN 7 and CNN-IBN with Express Group will survey Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly will be approached and asked to vote for their preferred aspirant. Simultaneously it will also be an attempt to give voice to the public's choices and provide answers to such speculations via the opinion polls. Viewers can make their choices on ibnlive.com or send an SMS to 2622, on who they think is best suited to be India's next President.

Commenting on the tie-up, Gautam Mukherjea, Head Corporate Business Development, The Indian Express said, "Collaborating with CNN-IBN and IBN 7 has meant the coming together of some of the best journalistic and marketing minds from both the print and electronic media. The pooled resources are insurmountable and therefore the projects undertaken are hugely successful." "It is a pleasure to team up with The Indian Express Group for yet another venture. Our synergistic alliances have proved successful in previous campaigns and I am confident that 'Your President' will be no different!" added, Dilip Venkatraman, Director Marketing and Online Projects, CNN-IBN and IBN 7
