prices over the last 50 years; this price trend, combined with some
structural shifts, has prompted a closer look at the industry, and
its investment potential as an asset class.
With Indian Art commanding some of the highest prices abroad; art
has become much sought after in India too. The art market is booming
and the appreciation in the prices of a few artists has been spectacular.
Until about ten years ago, art investment was unheard of. Investment-minded
individuals within India are increasingly drawn to lapping up works
based on their tastes and financial capacity. This has witnessed
a substantial jump in the number of buyers of Indian art.
