DELHI:ESPN STAR Sports, Asia's leading sports broadcaster, will
bring LIVE all the excitement of F1 racing this weekend with the
European Grand Prix. The channel will telecast LIVE and EXCLUSIVE
the Grand Prix from Nurburgring with its signature show Race Day
(pre race) and Chequered Flag (post race) as part of its comprehensive
F1 programming for Indian viewers.
The season has opened up again after a brief spell of domination
by McLaren with their rookie Lewis Hamilton. With the resurgence
of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, his victory in England earlier this
month followed by a similarly impressive performance during the
French Grand Prix, the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring is
set for cut throat competition.
The McLaren pair of Hamilton and Alonso looked set to run away
with the championship after dominating the two North American races
last month. Since then though, Raikkonen and his Brazilian teammate
Felipe Massa have picked up speed and have gained momentum for the
Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. Ferrari's recent comeback
has blown the championship race wide open but with just eight races
remaining the Red Team would look to ride on its current speed advantage.
Ralf Schumacher was born into racing at the Nurburgring and as
he heads into his home race this weekend, the Toyota driver retains
his youthful love of speed, even in his tenth year of Formula One
racing. Mercedes-Benz also has reason to celebrate their home race
as it is the 80th anniversary of their first win at Nurburgring.
The new Nurburgring is a relatively high downforce track, and there
are plenty of grips from the surface itself. The circuit replaced
Hockenheim for the event after the removal of the European Grand
Prix from the calendar meant that only one German circuit would
host a race this season. The circuit, with its interesting mix of
corners, straights and chicanes always promises some fascinating
racing.
