MUMBAI: Ms M.V. Savithri, Registrar, NIMHANS, has bagged the Essel
Karnataka's Best Public Servant Award.
Ms Savithri, a KAS Officer was voted by the people of Karnataka
as the State's Best Bureaucrat from among four nominees short-listed
by an eminent Jury. Ms Savithri has made a name for herself as an
independent and upright officer, who does not bow to political pressure.
She is also known for her pro-people approach.
The Jury selected Mr M. Madan Gopal, Commissioner of Public Instruction
as the best officer in the IAS category. As Director of Mines and
Geology, Mr Madan Gopal had waged a war against the illegal mining
lobby thereby saving the State over Rs 800 crore.
Mr C. Jayaram was nominated as the best IFS officer of the State
for his sustained contribution to protecting the environment, particularly
reviving lakes in Bangalore.
Ms P. Mallika, Deputy Registrar, Bangalore University was nominated
under the Other Services category. Ms Mallika is known to be a pro-active
officer who is extremely popular with the students, teaching and
non-teaching staff of the University.
The
Jury headed by Justice H. Rangavittalachar comprised Chairman of
the State Planning Board and former Chief Secretary Dr A. Ravindra;
Winner of the Essel Karnataka's Best Youth Legislator Award, Mr
C. Krishna Byre Gowda; Retired Director of Small Savings, Mr H.
Raghupathy; President of Karnataka State Government Employees' Association,
Mr L. Byrappa; Editor (Special Projects) of The New Indian Express,
Mr R.K. Mattoo; Managing Editor of Vijaya Karnataka, Mr Vishveshwar
Bhat; Head of the Department of Electronic Media Studies, Bangalore
University, Dr N.S. Ashok Kumar; and Senior Journalist Mr Shashidhar
Bhat.
"The Essel Group has instituted awards under different categories
every month in Karnataka in order to recognise unsung heroes and
thereby motivate the youth to scale new heights" said Dr M.
Gautham Machaiah, Vice-President - Corporate and Public Affairs,
Essel Group and Zee Network.
