New Delhi, November 18, 2005: The A1 Grand prix enters its fifth
round at Sepang Malaysia with telecast reaching 119 TV stations
in 119 countries across the world. In India, ESPN Star Sports will
telecast live and exclusive the qualifying, sprint race and the
Malaysian grand prix this weekend.
The A1 Grand Prix were awarded the Autocar Motorsport Award at
a prestigious ceremony in London this week. The award recognised
Sheikh Maktoums spectacular A1 Grand Prix series. The most
exciting motorsports event of the year has moved strength to strength
entertaining fans globally now enters Asia in Sepang.
The Sepang International Circuit consists of three circuits in
one. The main racetrack is 5.542km with the South Track being 2.7km
and the North Track 2.8km. The latter was the final one to be completed
and hosted its first official race in July 2003. One of the spectacular
features of the circuit is the smooth and sweeping chicane capable
of being negotiated at speeds in excess of 200kph. The fastest part
of the circuit is the Start/finish straight between turn 15 and
turn 1. World champion F1 driver, Michael Schumacher was consulted
on the design of the track in his capacity as a member of the Formula
One Drivers Safety Commission.
The French team, taking the initial advantage in this world cup
of motor sports, has stretched its lead to a comfortable 19 points.
However with Brazil at 52 points and as much as 21 points up for
grabs at every race, the French can not sit easy. Team Malaysia
will look to cash in on the home advantage at Sepang after an impressive
outing in Australia where they earned 9 points. The former F1 driver
and local boy Alex Yoong will be hoping to transfer his experience
in to a good showing with the some great support from the Malaysian
crowd.
Meanwhile, A1 Team Pakistan will reward its most patriotic supporters
by giving away tickets for the Grand Prix at Sepang. The first 100
fans turning up at Sepang in dark green and white clothing or waving
the national flag in support of the Pakistan Team will be rewarded
with free entry for themselves and a friend.
