BBC SIGNS CARRIAGE DEAL FOR ASIAN HOTEL CHAIN

BBC World, the BBC's 24 hour, international news and information television channel, has negotiated a major new agreement with Century Hotels. The deal will add more than 7,000 rooms to its current distribution of almost 500,000 rooms worldwide. The new rooms are divided among 37 hotels in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Says BBC World hotel distribution head Bill Mould: "This new venture with Century Hotels marks a significant step forward in our business strategy for these key territories. I am certain our distribution within the hotel sector will continue to increase throughout the region, alongside our penetration into households."

Meanwhile a local newspaper has carried a report that BBC World has been allowed to set up a 100% owned air-time selling and distribution & marketing outfit called BBC Worldwide India. The channel has been increasingly localising its programming and the move will help it generate revenues for its south-Asia targeted programming package.
