VOICES

DTH SPEAK

"All that the government is attempting to do is make the business more expensive for Murdoch and, in the process, help the country earn some additional revenue. The allegations (about Mahajan's proximity to Star TV/Murdoch) are baseless."

"A person who wants to do business in India would only be a fool to break THE rules. I think mandatory uplinking from India for DTH is technically not feasible. If the print medium is not regulated, why should the electronic medium be subject to such measures?"

INFORMATION & BROADCASTING MINISTER PRAMOD MAHAJAN QUOTED IN BUSINESS STANDARD WEEKEND.

"DTH has got more power than Pokhran. Proper checks and balances need to be put in place before allowing DTH operators to offer such services. We should not get carried away by the trappings of technology and make a concerted effort to preserve the lamp of culture."

PRAMOD MAHAJAN QUOTED IN THE HINDU BUSINESSLINE

"I'm not opposed to DTH but licences to DTH operators should be given by a quasi-judicial authority and not the government."

FORMER INFORMATION & BROADCASTING MINISTER JAIPAL REDDY QUOTED IN INDIAN EXPRESS
