VOICES

"24-hour sports programming involves huge acquisitions and production costs. Viewers demand live coverage of most sporting events. To telecast a game live, the service providers need to use several satellite hops which also involve very high costs."

ESPN Software India Ltd MD, Manu Sawhney defending the hike in subscription rate from Rs 7.00 to Rs 8.25 per subscriber per month quoted in The Times of India.

"Every time there is a major sporting event round the corner, they (ESPN-Star Sports) increase the rates. Unlike on previous occasions, when talks have broken down due to disunity among our operators, this time we are united."

InCable president Dileep Gupte on the ESPN subscription rate hike quoted in The Times of India.
