BJP CONTINUES TO FACE STORMY WEATHER IN PARLIAMENT

The BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) face flak today from opposition parties the representatives of which staged a walkout for the second week in a row. The bone of contention: the progress of an enquiry into the destruction of the Babri Masjid mosque in Ayodhya seven years ago. While BJP’s home minister L.K. Advani tried to explain the legal standing of the enquiry, he was shouted out by the opposition who then staged a walkout disrupting proceedings for the second week in a row. The government also managed to get the Foreign Exchange Management Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Bill cleared in Parliament.

The NDA is likely to face many more stormy sessions tomorrow when it introduces its Insurance Bill in the Upper House tomorrow. Earlier, the Lower House had cleared the Bill after making some changes that were requested by the Congress (I).
