So while Pakistan selectively bombs
Doordarshan transmitters in Kashmir and bans Indian
films and television, are we supposed to turn the
other cheek? To those who question the legality of
my decision, I say that not only did I have the legal
right to ask for a ban on Pakistan TV, I had the legal
obligation to do so under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation)
Act, 1995. As minister it is my duty to impelement
the law. To those who say that my decision is against
the principle of freedom of speech, I wish to ask
- whose freedom of speech? Free speech is the right
of all Indians. Not a hostile power which seeks to
belittle and denigrate India, especially in such circumstances.
We believe in the freedon of speech and expression,
but we also believe it should not be abused.
Information & broadcasting minister Pramod Mahajan
in a middle he wrote in The Indian Express defending
his decision to ban Pak TV.
ISRO should not become a one-stop
space shop as by and large it has been a research
and development organisation. I will develop newer
technologies and techniques. It will create prototype
experiments to demonstrate the applications on space
and when it reaches a level of operational character
we will transfer it to the user department or the
industry to market it.
Indian Space Research Organisation chairman K.
Kasturirangan quoted in The Indian Express.
I bring a sort of character, energy,
enthusiasm. I see myself as a facilitator to make
sure the people at the BBC have the opportunity to
make great programmes.
New BBC boss Greg Dyke quoted in the The Financial
Times.
We don't need to make the channels
profitable. Our related activities (Hallmark's retail
business - cards etc) take care of that... our niche
- we're a kids' channel for parents. Because like
them our prime concern is their future.
Hallmark Entertainment Network Asia chief Jeffrey
Johnson on the Kermit and Hallmark channels quoted
in The Sunday Review, The Sunday Times of India.
Boy, Peter (Mukerjea) wants results
and God help you if you put up a shabby performance.
Our very existence has become performance-related.
A Star TV India marketing executive quoted in Business
Standard Mumbai Weekend.
