Key players in Indian television

So, who are the major Indian television players who are supporting the concept in act and deed? Good question, next one please!

While films have no doubt acknowledged and supported the idea of brand placement within the film, television is still thinking about it. Star and Zee have tried it with KBC, Khulja Sim Sim and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai. But the short list ends there. Further, Star India and Zee TV officials have stated categorically that they had no such plans up their sleeve.

A cross section of channel heads contacted by indiantelevision.com reiterated the Star India concern. MTV creative director Cyrus Oshidar said that it was something they had been mulling over and admitted that the channel had received offers from advertisers for in-program brand placements. But the music channel had not yet arrived at any policy.

MTV Roadies is the only program on the channel that shows the sponsor Hero Honda's bikes throughout the show. However, the show doesn't carry any close-ups of the Hero Honda logo.

"If need, place or reason permits, it can be done," reasons Oshidar. Roadies lends itself to placing bikes in the program - the bikers cannot be shown eating chocolates. So, chocolates don't get placed on that program.

Madison India - CEO Punitha Arumugam says Madison is working on brand placements for most of its clients but avoided giving their names. Now the question here is if channels are not yet ready for it, how much of this work-in-progress will end up as finished marketable product.

Perhaps, it is too early to ask who the players in this field are.
