MUMBAI: JWT has announced the appointment of Radhika Shapoorjee as president of its PR agency Ipan, following the resignation of Vivek Sengupta last month.

JWT CEO Colvyn Harris says, "Ipan has grown steadily under Vivek's leadership over the past three years, and we are grateful for his contributions to the company. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours." Sengupta was president since February 2005.

Speaking about the appointment of Shapoorjee, Harris says, "Radhika Shapoorjee brings a fresh new perspective to Ipan's rich legacy in public relations and corporate communications. During her tenure as vice president, she has played a key role in consolidating existing business as well as leading new business acquisitions.

"Radhika has also begun a journey of streamlining structures and processes at Ipan, which are aimed at increasing internal efficiencies and deriving greater benefits for our clients and our people. As president, she is entrusted with the responsibility of expanding Ipan's range of services, and creating new tools and techniques that enhance professional excellence."

On the role of Ipan in the JWT network, Harris says, "We expect to have greater synergies between the advertising and public relations arms of the JWT family. In fact, Ipan's role in brand and corporate communication is in sync with the larger JWT perspective of providing 360-degree value to all the companies that work with us."

Speaking about future plans for Ipan, JWT's worldwide president Michael Maedel says, "With non-traditional tools like digital media and public relations gaining more importance in the marketing mix of any organisation today, innovative strategies like those that Ipan creates are what will give brands a cutting edge in the market today."

On the evolving role of PR, Shapoorjee says, "In today's complex business and media environment, the need of the hour is 'strategy-based' innovative PR campaigns that link into a company's business objectives or address specific issues.

"Ipan is equipped with an in-depth understanding of the complex media environment of today. Our focus is to build credibility and create positive opinion in this environment, with innovative solutions that add great value to a brand or corporate house's overall communication efforts."
