Spring/Summer 2008- Men's collection
For
Spring/Summer 2008, GAS mens collection has an on-trend
metropolitan look and feel that revolves around functional
styles with an eclectic mix n match. Inspiration also
comes from images of an English country garden with splashes
of intense colour throughout the collection.
For
daywear Dress Down range, the collection includes a fitted,
clean and trim silhouette along with a new trend for a more
relaxed and easier line. Hi-tech and protective materials
such as steel nylon and leather are used on the outdoor coats.
Linen and cotton feature on the de-constructed jackets that
include yarn dyed pattern. There is a wide range of shirts
featuring patterns and original combinations such as different
stripe designs next to check fabrics or solid colours with
small floral patterns. Special attention has been given to
the range of polos and T-shirts where fabric inserts
on edging and sides as well as personal touches on breast
pockets and collars can be seen. Innovative graphic techniques
like porcelain printing have been used to create tone on tone
designs with a shiny, transparent effect. Pants are prominently
regular fit for the 5- pocket chino, cargo and Bermuda models.
Denim,
the core GAS product, is evolving as a fabric that unveils
new looks and styles, ranging from the most casual to classy.
The denim jeans for Spring/Summer 2008 are mostly fitted with
cigarette-straight legs, although GAS is leaning towards a
new trend for comfier models with roomier hips that are low
rise with tapering legs at the hem in the 5-pocket style as
well as with the modern chinos.
There
are two contrasting denim looks this season: Clean and Vintage.
The former is influenced by the world of tailoring: accessories
and stitching blended in with the shade of the wash. The waistbands
are lined in chambray and the washes are light and discreet,
highlighting the structure of the fabrics. For the Vintage
style, the washes are distressed with dirt effects, sanding
and local wear and tear. The details and treatments range
from patterned pocket gussets, contrast colour stitching,
aluminium rivets and varnished buttons.
This
season, denim is breaking out into colour too. Apart from
the various shades of indigo and an unusual swimming pool
effect light blue, there is white, grey, grassy green, orange,
purple and bright red denim for the most international look.
For
the evening Dress Up range, there is an essential tuxedo in
3D effect grey denim. The jackets have a contemporary classic
cut and are worn over pants with tailored details featuring
contrast colour piping. The look is completed with layered,
lightweight muslin shirts that have contrast colour cuffs
and narrow collars.
