BANGALORE: GAS, the premium Italian lifestyle brand, announced the launch of its international 2008 Spring/Summer collection across its seven international concept stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and at over 100 points of sale across 16 top cities in India.

For Spring/Summer 2008 the collection is inspired by flowers, fragrances and colours of an English country garden. The look is contemporary and trendy whilst retaining the enduring GAS standards of high quality and craftsmanship. This is a versatile collection that works for both, casual daywear as Dress Down as well as offering a selection of elegant styles for the evening wear as Dress Up. The collection also features innovative styles in denim jeans such as grey denim, denim jeans with 3D effect and Swimming pool effect wash.

GAS Spring/Summer 2008- Women's collection

For daywear Dress Down range, the collection includes stylish combination of fashionable weights and shapes. It features A-line coats in hi-tech, protective materials, kimono shape dresses in lightweight cotton muslin with floral print designs all over. It also features T-shirts and jersey melange tops with a fluid, draped look in puffball silhouettes that sit easy around the waist and are tight on the hips for an international look with tapered jeans and trousers.

Denim is at the heart of GAS’ design philosophy and the brand is known for evolving the fabric beyond the classic 5-pocket style. There are jeans to coordinate with every look, from the most formal to the most glam. Jeans styles this season fall into two distinct themes: Clean and Vintage. The former takes its inspiration from traditional tailoring with sophisticated and minimalist details. Stretch fabrics are used to enhance the silhouette whilst light washes give the cloth a naturally smudged appearance. The latter features stronger washes with abrasive and dirt treatment effects. Details are bold with patterned sack pockets, lacquered buttons and contrast colour stitching.

In terms of fits, KESSY, a woman’s five pocket jeans that is low waist flared leg denim, is the hottest and most trendy style this season. KESSY is the expression of a new trend by GAS in contemporary vintage denim. Kessy jeans are styled with feminine tops to create a sophisticated, contemporary and sensual look. The colours in denims this season range from every nuance of indigo (including light blue denim which has a swimming pool effect), to coloured denim in white, pastel shades and grey.

For the evening Dress Up range, the collection has a fluid ‘Essensual’ feel, moving towards a more structured look for an elegant Dress Up range. Kimono dresses and A-line tops are embellished with lux fabrics (such as silk crepe), precious details, contrast colour ribbons and bands of sequins. The women’s tuxedo is presented in grey denim, with an innovative 3D effect. This look can be worn with lightweight cotton shirts, in a blend of striped and floral patterns for a mix and match of styles and inspirations. The jackets are interpreted in contemporary version of the classic cut and are edged with contrast colour piping, whilst pants have tailored cuts and classic details.

The colour palette includes shades such as lilac, purple, pink and light touches of pale orange as well as hues of greens from grass to military and pastels.

GAS Spring/Summer 2008- Men's collection

For Spring/Summer 2008, GAS men’s collection has an on-trend metropolitan look and feel that revolves around functional styles with an eclectic mix n’ match. Inspiration also comes from images of an English country garden with splashes of intense colour throughout the collection.

For daywear Dress Down range, the collection includes a fitted, clean and trim silhouette along with a new trend for a more relaxed and easier line. Hi-tech and protective materials such as steel nylon and leather are used on the outdoor coats. Linen and cotton feature on the de-constructed jackets that include yarn dyed pattern. There is a wide range of shirts featuring patterns and original combinations such as different stripe designs next to check fabrics or solid colours with small floral patterns. Special attention has been given to the range of polo’s and T-shirts where fabric inserts on edging and sides as well as personal touches on breast pockets and collars can be seen. Innovative graphic techniques like porcelain printing have been used to create tone on tone designs with a shiny, transparent effect. Pants are prominently regular fit for the 5- pocket chino, cargo and Bermuda models.

Denim, the core GAS product, is evolving as a fabric that unveils new looks and styles, ranging from the most casual to classy. The denim jeans for Spring/Summer 2008 are mostly fitted with cigarette-straight legs, although GAS is leaning towards a new trend for comfier models with roomier hips that are low rise with tapering legs at the hem in the 5-pocket style as well as with the modern chinos.

There are two contrasting denim looks this season: Clean and Vintage. The former is influenced by the world of tailoring: accessories and stitching blended in with the shade of the wash. The waistbands are lined in chambray and the washes are light and discreet, highlighting the structure of the fabrics. For the Vintage style, the washes are distressed with dirt effects, sanding and local wear and tear. The details and treatments range from patterned pocket gussets, contrast colour stitching, aluminium rivets and varnished buttons.

This season, denim is breaking out into colour too. Apart from the various shades of indigo and an unusual swimming pool effect light blue, there is white, grey, grassy green, orange, purple and bright red denim for the most international look.

For the evening Dress Up range, there is an essential tuxedo in 3D effect grey denim. The jackets have a contemporary classic cut and are worn over pants with tailored details featuring contrast colour piping. The look is completed with layered, lightweight muslin shirts that have contrast colour cuffs and narrow collars.
